Major International Bank

Challenge The bank was replacing a legacy mission critical system and adopting new technologies under an aggressive deadline using offshore and local development teams. This increased the need for the local teams to be able to step up and be leaders, since each team member was working with several offshore resources.

Solution Developed and delivered an eight-week technical leadership mentoring program for 15 team leads, covering a variety of topics that were indentified during the program design phase.

Results Project was successfully released on time and a large number of costly mistakes were identified and corrected during the development phase (rather than in the production phase, which was historically when mistakes were discovered).


Challenge The bank was looking to be the first with a new type of banking service aimed at high net worth individuals with banking needs in multiple countries. The project had a deadline considered impossible by most of the employees working on the project, and similar efforts had failed in the past after multi-million dollar investments failed to produce the desired result. Furthermore, global and regional development teams needed to coordinate their efforts and work in parallel to meet the release deadline.

Solution Provided senior technical leadership to the front-end development team responsible for the project and helped the team implement new development practices that would allow them to produce high-quality code and effectively coordinate across the numerous teams involved.

Results Project launched on time with zero support calls on the weekend after going live. (According to the client, this was an unexpected breakthrough.) Regional teams which received the code from the global team were able to make their customizations and were surprisingly satisfied with the ease of use of the code base (also a breakthrough result). Parallel development across the many teams involved which was necessitated by the "impossible" schedule was a success due to the tools and best practices that were adopted by the front-end team. This need for successful parallel development was the main reason most employees had believed the project would not succeed. The success of the project provided all those who worked on it with a first-hand experience of the benefits of effective technical leadership.

Top 10 US Bank

Challenge Production problems with mission critical systems were costing the bank significant amounts of money. Subject matter experts at the bank created a short list of skills they believed the team needed to reduce the amount of production problems. The program had to be delivered virtually using web conferencing software in 6 weeks to 32 developers located in the bank's development centers across the country.

Solution Worked with the client to develop an expanded and detailed outline of the six-week training program. Created the content for the program and delivered it virtually to 32 developers from the east coast to the west coast.

Results Program was successful developed and highly rated by the students with many of them stating things such as "I wish I knew this when we started the project …."

Power Company in the US Midwest

Challenge The power company had introduced a new mobile solution for managing the work of technicians in the field. They had identified and purchased a solution and needed to integrate it with their legacy information management system.

Solution Worked with the team of developers at the power company to train them on the integration technologies being used. In the process, provided extensive one-on-one mentoring to the client's team members.

Results Project released successfully and the client's developers were able to maintain and enhance the integration system that was developed.
